Gloria at The night of the Proms

RHYTHM IS GONNA GET YOU!

INTERNATIONAL SUPERSTAR

GLORIA ESTEFAN AT NIGHT OF THE PROMS

The 29th Antwerp edition and 23rd Rotterdam edition of the ‘classic meets pop’ spectacular Night of the Proms will have a very special ‘female’ touch. After announcing the Scottish singer-songwriter Amy Macdonald and the Japanese pianist and jazz composer Hiromi, the event now adds seven-time Grammy Award winning superstar Gloria Estefan to its program.

Havana-born but Miami-raised Gloria Estefan rose to fame as front woman of the groundbreaking Miami Sound Machine and has gone on to sell over 100 million albums worldwide with her repertoire in both English and Spanish. “Dr. Beat” (1984) was a huge dance hit in Europe, “Conga” (1985), “Bad Boys” (1986) and “Words Gets In The Way” (1986) became worldwide best-sellers. “Rhythm Is Gonna Get You” (1987), “Can’t Stay Away From You” (1988), “Anything For You” (1989) and “1-2-3” (1989) were released under the name Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine. From “Cuts Both Ways” (1989) onwards all albums were credited to Gloria Estefan solely, Miami Sound Machine continuing to be her backing band. Single releases from this album were “Don't Wanna Lose You”, “Get On Your Feet”, “Here We Are” and “Oye Mi Canto”.

At the height of her career in 1990, Gloria was critically injured in a tour bus accident, but sooner than expected she made her comeback in 1991 with a world-wide sold-out tour and the album “Into The Light” with the #1 single “Coming Out Of The Dark”. For her next releases, she was alternating between Spanish and English-language albums, further building bridges between Latin and American pop: “Mi Tierra” (1993), “Abriendo Puertas” (1995). “Destiny” (1996, with the single “Reach”, which was the theme of the Atlanta Olympic Games), “Gloria!” (1998, with the singles “Heaven's What I Feel” and “Oye”), “Alma Caribeña” (2000), “Unwrapped” (2003), “90 Millas” (2007, the first Spanish-language album to enter the Dutch Album Top 100 at number 1 position) and “Miss Little Havana” (2011). This September, you will see the release of “The Standards”, an album in which Gloria is performing songs from the “Great American Songbook” and which has duets with artists such as Laura Pausini, Dave Koz and Joshua Bell.

Throughout her illustrious career, Gloria Estefan was recognized in Billboards Top 100 of best- selling artists and became the single most successful crossover performer. Having won numerous awards, of which 7 Grammys, she became one of the most acclaimed Latin-American singers. She has paved the way for artists such as Shakira, Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Lopez. A gifted singer, Gloria Estefan also starred in the feature film ‘Music of the Heart’ with Meryl Streep. The theme song from the movie with ’N Sync was Grammy and Oscar nominated. She is a defender of humanitarian causes, human rights in her home country Cuba and equality rights. With her husband, musician-producer-entrepreneur Emilio Estefan, she is developing a new Broadway musical inspired by their music and life story.

Haute 100 Update Miami: Gloria Estefan to Perform The Standards At Gusman

Gloria Estefan will perform at the 30th annual University of Miami Frost School of Music’s Festival Miami on October 1st. Don’t expect “Conga” or any other of her well known hits, however, Estefan will be performing songs from her new album, The Standards with the Henry Mancini Institute Orchestra. Expect to hear songs like the one she performed with the late Frank Sinatra on Duets.  “Good Morning Heartache,” “Embraceable You,” “I’ve Grown Accustomed to His Face,” “Smile,” and “What a Wonderful World,” plus Latin American love songs “El Dia Que Me Quieres” and “Eu Sei Que Vou Te Amar” at the UM Gusman Concert Hall.
