Tonight's The Next

A little over a year after earning her bachelor’s degree, Angela Mukul is reaching for the golden ring — a recording contract.
Mukul, who has performed solo on stage since she was 15, sang Lady Gaga’s “You and I” before an audience of 1,800 at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles last month. That performance, along with those of five other contestants, will be aired tonight on “The Next” at 9 p.m. on the CW Network.

“It felt really good,” she said this week while waiting to hear how she does. “I think I did well.”
“The Next” is a reality program in which contestants work with music industry superstars over a period of 72 hours, and then compete head-to-head before a live audience. The winner of that round moves on to the semifinals.

When Joe Jonas, Nelly, Gloria Estefan and John Rich took the stage at the Hippodrome last night, the audience burst into screams and applause.

Most of the excitement was for Jonas and Nelly -- girls proposed and sang the musician's songs to get their attention.

The four celebrities were in town to shoot an episode of "The Next: Fame is at Your Doorstep," the CW’s new summer singing competition. The show features four unsigned artists who have a following in their hometown.

Each of the contestants is matched up with one of a celebrity mentors, and they have 72 hours to prepare for the big performance. At the end of the show, the audience helps choose the person they want to represent their city at the semi-finals in Los Angeles. The winner will get a recording contract with Atlantic Records and be the opening act one of their mentor's shows.

The Next visit Orlando

Gloria Estefan, John Rich, Nelly and Joe Jonas converged on Central Florida this week. Each mentored a local singer for “The Next,” a reality show that debuts Aug. 16 on The CW. Orlando was their first stop, and they will repeat the process in five cities.
“The Next” puts a more personal stamp on singing contests by showing contenders’ lives and letting the hopefuls interact with mentors.
“You have four separate mentors living 72 hours in the lives of other people, plus a live show in each city,”Estefan said. “Then the finals. There’s a lot on our plate. We do some crazy stuff, which I think makes it different. If not, it’s just another music show.”
Estefan wanted to impress her singer, rocker Cori Yarckin, 29, of Orlando, from the start. “I’m a boater. I ambushed her in true Florida style,”Estefan said.

A huge new music reality competition show from the creator of "The Biggest Loser," and Queen Latifah, is coming to CW18.  And it's kicking off right here in Orlando.

Music legends, Joe Jonas, Gloria Estefan, John Rich, and Nelly, will have 72 hours to mentor four of Orlando's local stars, and give them the chance to become the next national superstar!
